Working with password-protected files

Import and Export
Updated 12 days ago

Overview

Responsive supports the import and export of password-protected Microsoft Word (.docx, .doc) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls) files. This ensures your sensitive data remains secure throughout the project lifecycle.

Importing protected files

When you upload a password-protected Word or Excel file to a project or the Content Library, Responsive prompts you for the document password.

  • Validation: You must enter the correct password to proceed. If the password is incorrect or missing, the system displays an error message and prevents the file from being processed.

  • Formatting: Once validated, Responsive processes the file while preserving supported formatting, tables, styles, and document structure.

Exporting protected files

You can apply password protection to your exported Word and Excel response packages to maintain security after the file leaves the platform.

  • Setting a password: During the export process, select the option to enable password protection and define the password you want to apply to the file.

  • Recipient access: The exported file can only be opened by users who have the configured password.

  • Structure retention: Exported files retain all supported formatting and document structures, just like standard exports.

Note: Ensure you use supported encryption types. If a file uses an unsupported protection mechanism, Responsive will display a clear message indicating the limitation.
