Problems with exporting files back to the source

An error message displays when the source file has been edited and the changes have not been saved.

Whenever you click the Edit button in the file configuration, the file’s status changes to Draft and drafts cannot be exported.

1. Review the file and decide if you want to keep the changes or if you want to use the original file as it was.

2. Do one of the following:

   • If you want to keep the changes:

     1. Select Menu > View Import Configuration. The file configuration page appears.

     2. Click Import. The Configuration Details pop-up appears.

     3. Select the Merge changes with existing sections and questions radio button to preserve content already in the project, or the Create new sections and questions (Existing sections and questions will be deleted) to clear content in the project.

     4. Click Import.

     5. Export your project as usual.

   • If you do not want to keep the changes:

     1. Select Menu > View Import Configuration.

     2. Click the Revert Config button (counterclockwise arrow), then export your project as usual.

Binary or multiple choice answers appear duplicated on export

If binary or multiple choice answers appear twice in the exported document, it is typically caused by one of the following:

• An answer field has been mapped more than once.

• A table cell containing an answer has not been marked correctly.

To resolve the issue:

• Review the mapping and ensure each answer field is mapped only once.

• For tables, use Mark Table as Answer to prevent the table from being exported twice.

• After completing the mapping, scroll through the entire document to verify there are no overlapping answer fields before exporting.

Saved answers appear in the wrong cell on export

If saved answers appear in the wrong cells upon export, it is typically because the Answer column was incorrectly mapped. To resolve the issue:

1. Open the project and go to View Import Configuration.

2. Locate the sheet and review the Answer column mapping.

3. Update the mapping to the correct column where answers should appear in the exported file.

4. Reimport the configuration and perform the export again.

If you require an immediate fix, use the manual workaround of copying and pasting the answers into the correct column in the exported file.

Horizontal questions in Excel are not recognized

The Responsive mapping agent currently supports only vertical (row-wise) document structures. Questions arranged in a horizontal/column-wise format are not supported for mapping or manual selection.

Transpose the Excel file so that questions are arranged in rows (vertically) before importing into Responsive. Once restructured, upload the file again and the mapping agent will correctly identify the content.

Using Merge Changes isn't applying my mapping edits

Merge Changes only brings in new additions; it does not apply mapping changes to already-imported content. Instead, you can reimport using Create New (this reapplies the updated mapping and replaces the existing content) to make your changes.

Using the Apply to Other Sheets option during Excel import leaves some rows unmapped on subsequent sheets

If the rows containing questions differ between the first sheet and the other sheets, the row-based mapping doesn't line up and may not export properly.

To resolve this, when configuring Answer columns that contain both dropdowns and rich text, do not delete any of the answer types — select the entire column as Answer. This keeps the mapping intact across sheets.
Note: For sheets where the question rows differ significantly, review and adjust the mapping per sheet.

Bullet points appear in defined Answer Style rather than the Answer List Style specified in the template upon export

This can happen when the bullet points in the response had a regular paragraph style applied to them instead of a bullet/list style. Paragraph (non-bullet) styles map to Answer Style; bullet styles map to Answer List Style.

To resolve this:

1. Go to the answer, apply a bullet/list style to the bullet content and a paragraph (non-bullet) style to the non-bullet content.

2. Re-export to the template. Bullets will then follow the template's Answer List Style and paragraphs the Answer Style, regardless of the styles previously applied in the project.
