How does Responsive handle email notification hard bounces?

Overview

A hard bounce is an email that permanently bounced back to the sender because the address is invalid. A hard bounce usually occurs because:

  • There was a typing error when entering the recipient’s email address.
  • The recipient’s email address is missing or invalid.
  • The recipient’s domain is non-existent.
  • The recipient’s email server blocked the email.
  • Network issues on the recipient’s end.

For example, say Gus Wellman (Gus@responsive.io) is the project primary contact, but Gus is no longer associated with the company or his email address has been changed (Gus.Wellman@responsive.io, for example). One of the project team members is @mentioning Gus Wellman for a clarification but the email notification bounces back because of an invalid email ID.

In this scenario:

  • The email preferences of the recipient with the invalid email address will be turned off.
  • Notifications will be automatically sent to the Super Admin.
  • If notifications can't be delivered to the Super Admin, a Responsive support user will be notified.
