Overview
You can create user-defined merge tags at the project, section, and question levels.
- Custom fields created within projects can be associated to merge tags and can be used as merge tags while answering.
- You can also add merge tag information from Salesforce.

Select the applicable tab for your edition of Responsive.

Creating custom fields for merge tags
- Go to Organization Settings > Response Project > Custom Fields and click Add New.
- Select the appropriate category radio button, then enter the Merge Tag Name and Display Name.
- Click Add Field. The newly created field will be displayed in the list of fields as shown below:
- While creating a new project, you have to enter the custom field value of the merge tag.
- You can see the value of the merge tag in highlighted in questions. Hover over it to see the name of the merge tag in brackets, and you can click the broken link icon to remove the references.
Creating Salesforce-defined merge tags
- Click Add from Salesforce.
- Enter the Salesforce fields to be searched and click the Search icon. Once the results are displayed, click the + icon to add the field.
- Edit the tag name if required and click the Checkmark icon followed by Add to add the tag.
- All merge tags added from Salesforce will be available under Salesforce tab.
- Merge tags are replaced with their respective values when the document is exported.
- All merge tags added from Salesforce will be available under Salesforce tab.
Creating merge tags at the project level
- Click Menu from the top right corner of the page and select Merge Tags.
- Click Add New Tag.
- Add a name and value for the tag, using an underscore ( _ ) between words if you are adding a tag with more than a singe word, then click the checkmark icon to save the tag.
- Click Add New Tags to add more tags if necessary.
Creating merge tags at the overall question Level
- Click Menu from the top right corner of the page and select More Options.
- Select Merge Tags from the expanded menu.
- Click Add New Tag to add a tag, or the Trash icon to delete one.
Creating merge tags at the individual question level
When you are responding to an individual question and would like to access merge tags:
- Click the three-dot icon associated with the question and select More Options.
- The Merge Tags page appears with the User Defined tab displayed by default.
- Click Manage Tags icon to add more tags.
- On the Merge Tags pop-up, enter merge tag values or add a new user-defined merge tag.
Applying merge tags to questions
- You can add your new merge tag to the question by selecting it in the Merge Tags pane and clicking the Apply icon.
- You can also add merge tags manually while responding to the question. Enter the merge tag word or phrase within square brackets and Responsive automatically identifies it as a user-defined merge tag.
Note: Auto-suggestions for system defined, user defined, and Salesforce defined merge tags appear as you type.
- You can click the System Defined tab to see merge tags defined by the system.
