Overview
You must contact accountmanagers@responsive.io or your CSMs to enable hierarchical tags. Once you enabled, they can't be disabled.
Hierarchical tags allow for multi-level content tagging, similar to a folder structure, and is a more efficient way of organizing content. Hierarchical tags are applicable wherever Content Library tags are used.
You can have any number of child or grandchild tags; however, you can only have three levels in the hierarchy.
Select the applicable tab for your edition of Responsive.

Importing hierarchical tags
Prerequisite: The tags to be imported should be available in the application.

- Save the file and import it. The tags will be imported and displayed as hierarchical tags.
Importing via standard template/advanced configuration
When manually importing files, any tags that have the Parent tag >> Child tag >> Grandchild tag format are imported into the application only if these tags are already available in Organization Settings.
Once imported:
- If moderation is enabled, the content will be submitted for moderation.
- If moderation is not enabled, the content will be directly added to the library.
Filtering and searching tags
You can filter and search for content based on hierarchical tags.
Using the filter
- When filtering content by parent tag, all content tagged with the parent/child/grandchild tags are retrieved. For example, if there are five child tags and each of them have two grandchild tags, all content with any of these tags will be retrieved.
- When filtering content by child tag, only the content with that tag is retrieved; the content with the parent tag will not be retrieved unless it’s tagged with the child tag as well.
Using the advanced filter
Select the tags you want to search for from the list.
- When searching by parent tag, all content tagged with the parent/child/grandchild tags are retrieved by default.
- When searching by child tag, only the content with that tag is retrieved.
Using RQL searches
You can perform an RQL search for hierarchical tags using the following syntax: Tags:“Parent Tag >> Child Tag >> Grandchild Tag”
Tagged content count
When content is tagged with a parent tag, only the count of the parent tag increases. However, when content is tagged with a child or grandchild tag, count of all its parents tag increments.
For example, if there is a Hierarchical Tag- Security → Compliance → Requirements, tagging a content with Security will increment the count of the Tag Security by 1. When the content is tagged with Compliance, the count of both Security and Compliance increments by 1. When tagged with Requirements, the count of all three tags in the hierarchy increments by 1.
Viewing tags in linked companies
If hierarchical tags are not enabled in the parent company, but enabled in the partner companies, the tags can be viewed by the parent company as well.
Tags in projects
Hierarchical tags are applicable wherever Content Library tags are applicable in projects.
-
Activities: Whenever a hierarchical tag is added, it’s captured in the Activities.
-
Bulk Update: Hierarchical tags can also be bulk updated.
-
Advanced Filter: Q&A Pairs can be filtered using hierarchical tags.
- Project Report: In the exported Excel, the Tag column displays hierarchical tags in the format parent tag >> child tag >> grand child tag>> separated by commas.
-
Project settings: You can filter content based on hierarchical tags under Answer Library search and AI Assistant.
- Documents: When adding attachments from the Document Library, the Document Library pop-up displays hierarchical tags in the Tags column.
- Import from Section templates: While importing sections through section templates, the Add sections from template pop-up displays hierarchical tags if any are present under the Tags column. The Group Name will also be displayed.
- Project Duplicates: Under project duplicates check, for project question cards, hierarchical tags will be displayed if any.
-
Recommendations Pane: Hierarchical tags can also be viewed from the Recommendations pane. Hovering over the tags will display the hierarchy. The content can be applied to the question and the tags will be carried over.
Editing and Deleting Tags
When working with hierarchical tags you can't edit or delete a parent tag without deleting the child tag.
For example, if you have Product (the parent tag)>>TW team (the child tag), and you want to make TW team(child tag) the parent tag, you must delete the TW team tag and create a new tag called TW team as a parent tag.
Tags in Widgets and Lookup
Hierarchical tags are also available on all widgets and LookUp.
